Born in Waterbury, Connecticut a few moments after its zenith as the Brass Center of the World. Went to WPI to study electrical engineering (but not often enough). Discovered that I liked teaching and joined the Peace Corps. Taught math in Sierra Leone for two years and came back to work at WPI. Thought I might want to work in educational television and by accident found out about a field called instructional technology. Got my PhD in instructional design at Syracuse University and went from there to the same job I still have 31 years later: Professor of Educational Technology at San Diego State University.
